ASU Extended Campus: Nonprofit Management Institute
Established in 1993, the Nonprofit Management Institute (NMI) has enhanced the management skills of over 3,000 professionals serving the nonprofit sector. Through a selection of courses, one-day seminars and a certificate program, NMI presents key issues affecting the nonprofit industry and helps individuals and organizations thrive in today's fast-paced and competitive environment.
Arizona Community Foundation
The Arizona Community Foundation funds community and statewide needs in areas including the arts and culture, public education, the environment, youth development, community building, and health and human services. ACF's priorities are: children, youth and families; public education reform; and community development. The organization helps nonprofit organizations improve their abilities to respond to the needs of Arizona communities by providing training, technical assistance, program evaluation or capacity building. Site includes news, tools, and research of interest to non-profit community organizations.
Rural Health Office of Arizona
The Rural Health Office promotes rural health through service, education, and research. Activities include annual conference, grant writing workshops, and grant guidance for the Office of Rural Health Policy.
Arizona Telemedicine Program
The Arizona Telemedicine Program provides telemedicine services, distance learning, informatics training, and telemedicine technology assessment capabilities to communities throughout Arizona. Functioning as a "virtual corporation," the Arizona Telemedicine Program is creating new paradigms for healthcare delivery over the information superhighway. The program is recognized as one of the premier programs at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and has received numerous awards at the national level for its research and innovations.
Arizona TeleBehavioral Health Network
The Arizona TeleBehavioral Health Network was developed to provide clinical behavioral health services and related activities via live, interactive videoconferencing. The mission of the network is to enable multiple connecting networks throughout Arizona to provide high-quality, consistent behavioral health care to the communities for which they are responsible.
Arizona Association of Community Health Centers
AACHC is a non-profit organization of members with a common mission: to promote and facilitate the development and delivery of community oriented, affordable, high-quality, culturally effective, accessible primary health care in the State of Arizona. Membership consists of non-profit, tribal and public primary care health centers in more than eighty-five medically underserved Arizona locations. Site includes information on the AACHC's programs, including Native American Program, Community Development, Migrant Farm Workers Program, and the Arizona Partnership for Immunization.
Community Health Development Initiative
Brief overview of an initiative sponsored by The Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Health Systems Development. The purpose of the initiative is to improve primary health care access and reduce health disparities by identifying and assisting Arizona medically underserved communities with community development activities such as capacity building and strategic plan development.
American Indian Studies Program (AISP) Office of Community Development
University of Arizona's AISP/Office of Community Development has the only university-based community development and outreach program specifically dedicated to providing services to American Indian nations within the state. The Office coordinates research, community and economic development activities; assists American Indians in obtaining educational opportunities; provides technical assistance and resource identification; assists with self-determination efforts; and sponsors legal research and assistance to American Indian tribes, organizations and individuals.
Arizona Tobacco Education and Prevention Program
TEPP produces a variety of outreach materials on tobacco and smoking, performs policy analysis, and provides training and technical assistance. Site includes Information on statewide projects, youth tobacco use, and links to cessation and prevention resources.
Health-related Community Development Projects of the Intertribal Council of Arizona, Inc.
The Inter Tribal Council of Arizona provides a united voice for tribal governments located in the State of Arizona to address common issues of concerns. The ITCA promotes Indian self-reliance through public policy development and provides an independent capacity to obtain, analyze and disseminate information vital to Indian community self-development. The Healthy Communities Office identifies, links and supports Arizona communities that are using collaborative approaches to health planning, prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. This site has information about resources for community development projects and events in Arizona that focus on improving the quality of life in the community and health promotion.
Nutrition, Exercise and Wellness Projects
The Nutrition, Exercise, and Wellness (N.E.W.) Program in the University of Arizona Department of Nutritional Sciences provides outreach education and conducts research to promote optimal health and well-being through nutritional and physical activity practices. The Nutritional Assessment Lab provides nutritional assessments of diets and develops methods to improve assessment of dietary intakes. The laboratory team also provides community education programs related to nutrition, exercise, and wellness aimed at health promotion, disease prevention, and wellness. U.S.-Mexico Border Health Association
The goal of the USMBHA is to promote the improvement of the health and living conditions of the people of the United State-Mexico Border. The Association promotes public and individual health along the United States-Mexico border through reciprocal technical cooperation. It focuses its resources on information dissemination on border health issues and the creation of effective networks. It also promotes and supports sister city relationships through its Binational Health Councils, including coordination, joint planning and program implementation. This site describes border health projects and links to border health publications.
Baby Arizona - Arizona Wellness Center for Women
In Arizona, at least one third of expectant mothers do not receive early and continuous health care during their pregnancy. The goal of Baby Arizona is to increase the percent of healthy babies born to Arizona women and to improve the health of expectant mothers through a public/private partnership that focuses on outreach to low-income pregnant women and reduces barriers to early prenatal care.
Beyond Tribal Self-Determination: A Model Health Department
Description of the efforts of the Gila River Indian Community Department of Public Health (GRDPH) in Sacaton, AZ, to transform its health department into a model for other tribal health departments. The W.K. Kellog grant, entitled Turning Point: Collaborating for a New Century in Public Health, incorporated the values and public health concerns of a sovereign Native-American community with the core public health functions and health department structure found in the state, county, or local governmental systems throughout the United States.
Healthy Arizona 2010
Healthy Arizona 2010 is a comprehensive statewide prevention agenda designed to improve the health of all Arizonans over the next decade. Site provides an Executive Summary of the project and describes the project's Strategic Plan, primary areas of focus, and local projects throughout the state.
